Steve, Kristof and I
arrived Friday night to camp and then watch the 600-yard
4-man event on Saturday. |
Steve, making us espresso
on a kerosene stove inside his truck. Pretty gnarly,
I must say. I asked if doing so would void his truck
warranty. |

from the floorboards of a Ford pickup. |
I'm not sure why we
didn't shoot the Saturday 600-yard event, but I thought
we had to field a team of four people. We'll shoot
it next year. |

Nobody ever accused
high power shooters of not being a colorful bunch. |
A pretty slick NRA Match
Rifle with a serious scope on board. |

Kristof chewing on his
hearty cup of espresso on Saturday morning. |
This looks like Kristof
is in a bad mood, but he wasn't. He was cleaning Cosmoline®
off of his Springfield 1903A3 he bought last year
at Camp Perry from the CMP. |
|
|
Kristof's 1903A3 after
some Gun Scrubber and WD-40 to remove the gunk. It
went from Beast to Beauty, and looks unissued and
unfired after being redone after the war. |
Steve's "Butterfly"
multi-fuel survival stove we used for espresso. It
had Arabic writing on the side that we guessed said
"Die you Americans!" or something. |
|
|
Steve's Cabela's Guide
Tent that we called home for two nights. Nice tent,
although we went without a stove the first night and
got a tad chilly in the wee hours. |

a pose.

Kristof practicing mounting
his 1903A3 rifle. |
A lot of safety prep
went into this shot. I verified twice that his rifle
was empty and walked backwards watching him with my
super-telephoto and then took this shot. |

Early morning Sunday
on the 200-yard line during the 3-minute prep time
for Relay 1. |
Kristof and John were
both shooting my AR-15, so we squadded so that we
could trade off while one shot, one scored and one
pulled targets. |

match leg on the 200-yard line, which is shot standing,
offhand, slow fire. |

at the 200-yard line.

Steve getting ready
to shoot his M1 Garand from the 200-yard line. Steve
was hoping to shoot my AR-15 as well, but there wasn't
a way to squad us to share one rifle with only 3 relays. |

his shooting coat for firing.

|
I scored for this shooter,
Bill Burant, from Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Great
guy! He was shooting a Springfield M1A .308. |
This is a High Master
shooter who was on the line next to me, and I forgot
his name. He is a very experienced shooter in his
70's, still shooting very well. |
|
|
Steve and I were on
pit duty for the 3rd relay of 300 yards and first
two relays of 600 yards. |
Kristof firing my AR-15
National Match rifle at 600 yards, prone, slow fire.
He did pretty damn well for shooting someone else's
rifle! |
|
|
Kristof firing at 600
yards prone. We were all firing 77-grain Sierra MatchKing
loads that I made, except for Steve who had to shoot
his Garand. |
Steve spotting and scoring
rounds for Kristof at 600 yards. |
|
The Eau Claire National Rifle
Club is a great organization of some kick-ass
shooters and they are all very friendly towards
outsiders like us who come to shoot at their club.
I highly recommend attending
one of their matches!

A photo from behind
Kristof and Steve at the 600-yard line. It gives you
an idea of how far away these targets are if you have
never shot a High Power match. |
