Curling For The First Time!
I was invited to try curling with my sister
and brother-in-law Jim down at the Duluth Curling Club.
I must admit, I always thought curling was on the fringe
past the margin of being considered a "sport,"
until I tried it. There is a LOT more to it than I thought!
It is far more physical, far more strategic and far more
of a finesse sport than I ever would have imagined. I
may possibly be hooked, too! Pretty damn fun! Under the
extreme sodium rink lights, I used a Tiffen 82 Cooling
Filter on my 10-22mm zoom lens to compensate for the orange
hue. I shot these all at 800 ISO without any flash. Some
are grainy and going south, but I never dared use a flash.
There is serious curling etiqutte and flash photos on
rock delivery would seriously violate all the rules. Even
for beginners!

My
first bona fide rock release. Thankfully it was
similar to bowling, except it was totally different.

the ice on the left, going for a long right-leg-extension
as opposed to a beginner's knee...
